Dear all my friends

Thank you for everything. I really appreciate what you guys did for me.

I didn’t expect that there were sooo hearty presents, specially videos…My heart is filled with you guys.

I came there Toronto at first as visiting on February 2003. When I would graduate University, I wanted to do something unique I never done before.

My Australian Kendo friend (ex-team Australia member) was living in NY then. So I thought if I could go to NY and play practice in there, it would be exciting. And when I talked my another Australian friend of my Dojo about it casually, he introduced me Hana Ariga (Taro Ariga’s sister). She was team Canada member then & also graduated UofT and she was staying in Japan then. So she introduced me Matthew and I visited UofT.

I still remember the day I came Toronto first time. I didn’t book the place to stay over and I just was thinking in worst case just sleep outside wherever… but out side was -25 degree….

And after that North America visiting and playing Kendo around, I just asked Matthew like … “thank you for the last time, I moved a lot because of you guy’s hospitality. So can I help something for UofT?” And he said “if you could send equipments, it will be great” So I sent 5 sets from Japan and kept touching with him. And I also have interesting to stay in foreign country, so I asked him about it, and he said “if you could come, it would be great!!”

So I said sorry the company I was supposed to work in Japan after graduation. And I earned money and came to Toronto March of 2004.

In the beginning, I just was curious about foreign country’s (Canadian) life. And after I came here, you guys were there and accepted me this such a stupid guy and helped me a lot and made me feel part of family UofT Kendo Club. When I noticed, my life changed completely, because I felt I got family in Toronto

Some said Thank you for teaching a lot… but I learned a lot from everybody.

I learned that how smile is important, smile is most important conversation than language. If I listen somebody, they will definitely be listened me. If I have interesting to somebody, they will have interesting to me. How important to try without being afraid of failure. How friend’s existence makes my life brighter. How little bit kindness makes our life finer… etc

Of course as to Kendo, I learned a lot. Maybe sound strange for you guys, but seriously I learned a lot. I have never thought & studied so seriously & deeply about Kendo before.

You guy’s passion to the Kendo made me push and made my kendo better a lot.

For me, Kendo is part of my life and I can’t live without it, but I know for some people it’s just exercise. But I think it’s fine too. Because even for me Kendo should be hobby still and also I can’t force my ideas.

But please don’t forget about friends. I mean even you can’t play practice because of some reasons, please keep in touch with kendo friends. Because, trust me, if you get somebody close through Kendo, they will be great friend for you. Kendo is a way to respect people & control ourselves and also the way to get close with people.

So please show your kindness little bit like you guys showed me, and don’t forget to smile to the person beside of you after the practice (of course in the practice, please Kill that person).

In this a year and half, I was wondering if I should teach. Because of my ability as Kendo player & instructor, I knew, wasn’t enough good. But you guys always supported me and gave a lot of confidence to me. Thank you for cheering me all the time. You guys changed my life.

I can’t forget the times I spent with you guys together.

But I also never imagined before my life would be filled with nice friends like you guys…. You guys never know how deep I appreciate you guys.

I think I can’t meet you guys for a while. But see you someday in somewhere and let’s play practice together and get drunk together and do stupid thing together!!

Bye for now. Thank you so much!! I’m glad to meet you in my life time.
